# How It Started
An onboarding doc that wouldn't stay internal.
Propwave started in 2021 as an internal onboarding doc written by Karthik Raman for juniors joining his team. The doc kept growing – more chapters, more exercises, more people asking for a copy – until it stopped making sense to keep it private.
The method stayed the same from day one: read working code, break it on purpose, rebuild it from a blank file. Video courses were easier to sell. We published books anyway, because that's what actually stuck.
Four authors write everything themselves. No ghostwriters, no content farms. We ship two titles a year and keep every older one updated when the tools move. Quality over volume – that's the deal.
